Cobone serves customers across its website and mobile applications, where every interaction matters. From discovering an offer to completing a purchase, customers expect timely, relevant and consistent communication.
As the business evolved, we needed a more connected way to manage customer information, marketing campaigns, application events and transactional emails.
Moving to Customer.io was more than replacing an existing marketing platform. It involved migrating customer data, connecting multiple systems and making sure important customer interactions continued working throughout the transition.

The challenge was to complete the migration without disrupting the customer experience or day-to-day marketing operations.
My Role: Leading the Technical Delivery
As Head of IT at ME Digital Group, I led the website and mobile development teams through the migration and integration process.
My responsibility was to bring technical planning, development and business requirements together while ensuring the implementation was properly tested and verified.
Working closely with the developers and Marketing team, I oversaw:
- Migration Planning: Reviewing customer data migration requirements, synchronization and implementation priorities.
- API Integration: Coordinating Customer.io connectivity with Cobone’s existing backend, website and mobile applications.
- Event Tracking: Planning and verifying customer events across web and mobile journeys.
- Transactional Emails: Overseeing the migration of system-generated emails to Customer.io.
- Testing & Quality Assurance: Reviewing integrations, identifying issues and coordinating fixes.
- Marketing Collaboration: Gathering feedback, reviewing campaign requirements and resolving outstanding technical issues.
- The Experience: Connecting Technology With Customers
One important part of the project was understanding how technical changes would affect real customers.
A registration, purchase or account-related action should trigger the right communication at the right moment. Behind that simple experience are APIs, customer profiles, event tracking and several interconnected systems.
We focused on improving the reliability of these connections while giving Marketing a stronger foundation for customer segmentation, automation and engagement.
A successful migration is not just about moving data; it is about keeping every customer connection working.
The Outcome: A Stronger Engagement Platform
The migration was successfully completed, with positive feedback from the Marketing team.
The project delivered several important business outcomes:
- A centralized platform for customer engagement and communication.
- Integrated customer events across website and mobile applications.
- Better support for marketing automation and personalized campaigns.
- More consistent transactional email management.
- An improved foundation for monitoring customer journeys and measuring engagement.
These improvements established a clearer technical framework for tracking event activity, data synchronization and communication performance over time.
The real achievement was making a complex technical transition feel simple for the teams and customers relying on it.
For me, this project was another example of how good technical leadership, close teamwork and attention to customer experience can turn a challenging migration into lasting business value.
